During the workout, we were serenaded by The Beatles. Help! I need somebody! Help! Not just anybody! Help! Me with my Kettlebell! Help! And then there was another Beatles classic: Oh, yeah, I’ll tell you somethin’ I think you’ll understandWhen I say that somethin’I want to hold your Kettlebell. OK, maybe those weren’t exactly the lyrics we listened to. Who were the Beatles? Ask White Deer. He remembers. BTW. I’m disappointed he didn’t show up. I even played “When I’m 64”. But the other white animal showed up. Along with 2/3s of VCU’s professoriate. And Atilla. But the lights didn’t…

On a beautiful Seattle morning, 7 able men came together. I was able to justify my reputation for Q’ing on rainy days. It was a good turnout considering the conditions and thankfully the bus loop offered good protection from the elements. COP: DQs, helicopters, HRMs, MCs, FMs and ACs. Mosey 10 feet. Exercise 1: Pacer bear crawls to end of bus loop and runs back. Others do leg exercises such as coupon squats, wall sits, coupon side lunges both directions, SSHs and jump squats. Attila and I went a long distance for the bear crawl so I audibled a little…

Warm weather was welcomed. Lights in the bus stop were welcomed. Six noble warriors got to plant a KB this week as these girl scouts were not going door-to-door like past weeks. Once upon a midday dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious Backblast of forgotten lore While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. “There’s a white animal”, I muttered “tapping at my chamber door— Only this and nothing more.” Ah, distinctly I remember it was 2 months past December; And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor. Eagerly I wished the morrow; vainly I had sought to borrow From backblasts surcease of sorrow, my Backblast, the task before…

The Chickasaw story “Ghost of White Deer” is one of the most well known Native American legends.  I am going to tell it terribly and wrongly. A brave young Circus Maximus warrior, Atilla, fell in love with Bright Moon, the daughter of a chief (possibly a F3 runner with recent knee troubles). The chief did not like the young man, so he created a price for the bride that he was sure Atilla could not pay. “Bring me the hide of White Deer,” said the chief. The Circus Maximus believed that all white animals were magical. “The price for my…

No snow (yet), just 5 strong redwoods with their kettlebells ready for iron to sharpen iron. So, finally, Homer came to Circus Maximus and White Deer missed him. After some initial confusion about who is Qing, we did a warm up. After warm up, we did Lucky Loop: 20 Lawnmower Pulls (each hand), 30 Curls, 20 Overhead Pulls (30 for overachievers), 20 Skull Crushers, 20 Squats, 20 Lunges, 30 Swings, 10 Burpies (to welcome Homer back), 20 Around-the-World, 20 Sit and Press, 20 Flutter Presses, 20 High Pulls. Great to see Homer back, but too bad White Deer could not come. We missed a lot of his jokes.

I came on the relatively warm confines of MGHS (AKA the bomb shelter) to find the temperatures approaching a non-sunny 50 degrees, not bad for 1/19. 5 others joined me in a KB workout. I decided due to limited brain capacity to replicate the coupon workout I led yesterday but with kettlebells. I made a couple modifications. COP: DQs, DMH, HRMs, FMs and arm circles. I don’t vary the COPs very much. The FMs did drive a couple of backblasts. Mosey to bus loop. Triple check (we had 6 – awesome): Coupon bench presses, coupon flutters (switched to LBCs) and…
