Twenty tryptophan trekking titans turned loose at various times to attempt to all finish a 10k by 0615. The route was well rehearsed and published in advance. Most everyone got it. One group left at 0510. After Saab recognized the stranger standing beside him, Hutton called 0515 and a large group took off. Four more of the fast gobblers took off at 0525. For the first time since the dog days of summer someone other than Lockjaw or Splinter showed up at Spider Run with a route to run. YHC joined twelve guys at the lowest point in the Tuckahoe Area (not an official measurement) to run around the hills of Westham on a beautifully cool and crisp morning. The Thang– Everyone to College Road via the baseball field parking lot. Right on Lakewood and left on Wood. This should all be very familiar. From there, Aha!, it takes a bit of a change…instead of the normal right on Baldwin, everyone went left…and…

Eight of the area’s finest gathered in the light mist for today’s Spider Run. With no one reviewing routes prior to launch, one round of instructions didn’t suffice. YHC had enough and off we went, offering traveling instructions for the sixes. Today was the middle section of the turkey trot route, everything up through going south on Westham. Here are the instructions, typed out as complicated as possible. The Route Left out of parking lot and left in front of the Commons. Veer right around the lake and take your first left up the hill. Seventeen or so young lads gathered to discuss what a non Lockjaw Q may look like. We waited for Lockjaw to appear but he never did. The only directions this morning were that we were tackling the first third of the turkey trot route. Off we went, ready for some intervals. The Route Warm up run by the lake, veering right up the first hill. Pause for brief instructions. Two intervals up the first hill with the first treated as a warm up and the second continuing up the hill and out Campus. Continue up Campus then u-turn down Towana.…

Wait? Another Lockjaw Q? Today’s route was a non-hilly as possible considering the abundance of hills last week. Off we went around the lake, through the trail and to College. Up Lakewood to Wood to Waveny to Westham. Ascend the hill to Patterson and head east. 4s turn on Ridgetop, 5s on St Chris, and 6s on Libbie. Routes were a little short today. You are welcome. YHC took us out.

Up the hill and through the country club we went. A quick bounce down Three Chopt to explore the darkness and hills south of Cary St. Down and up, down and up, and down and up. 4s/5s returned the way they came and 6s took Maple to Patterson to Honaker and back. TYA took us out.

There once was TYA from Nantucket…. A lucky 13 came out for this week’s edition of Spider Run. Though the routes were a little light, the mumble chatter afterwards was not. Various assortment of topics of value and range. The route exited the bat cave and across the river. 4s headed upstream and retraced their route around Butte. 5s/6s headed downstream and worked some elevation up and then back down to Riverside; exploring some new roads in the process. YHC took us out.

A sweet 16 count of runners came out for prime running weather. Some with long sleeve, some with short sleeve, as the cooler temps require some adjustment. A classic route around the lake, through the woods and up the hill. Down Ziontown and various routes back to the AO. Fun was had by all, including extensive talk around fires, firewood, and the various means for storing firewood. Marv took us out. Announcements: Convergence this weekend. See slack for details.
