“If you have much, give of your wealth; if you have little, give of your heart.” – Unattributed. Tonight Kubota and I, along with our 2.0s had the great honor of spending some time with those in need at the Daily Planet. We brought very little, yet received a whole lot. A great meal was shared, and great conversations were had. We could not be more proud of our 2.0s. They showed tremendous service, understanding and compassion for only being 8 and 6 years old. YHC was incredibly surprised by the smiles and happiness of these folks, despite their having…
3 men took some time during this Christmas season to a meal a to some of those that could use some good comfort food and solid conversation. We pulled out at 5:10 with food ready to be severed. YHC had some trouble with following directly but after a quick detour to the front of the building we made our way up the stairs. We were greeted with a friendly welcome and got to work setting up. On the meal today was some chicken and dumplings, apples, mashed potatoes with gravy, salad, and finally a Richmond staple Ukrop’s cake We had…
3 thankful Pax descended upon 180 Belt Blvd. for the latest installment of Breaking Bread. According to the loitering customers next door at Wendy’s, here’s how the evening went: Seymour and Malcolm arrived first to scout the AO. Swirly would be proud – 40 minutes ahead of start time (ironically, start time for dinner actually is 5:30, only this event is “p.m.”). UpChuck pulled in about 5:12. Pax unloaded and set-up ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, King Hawaiian rolls, and cookies. What was the world like prior to Costco quantities? Add to the food a quick set-up of plates, cutlery, etc.…

2 dads and 2 sons met up with pots, pans and other assorted cooking implements to feed some folks at Breaking Bread on a Sunday evening. This is how it all got eaten: -Warmup: lug all Lab Rat’s crap up the steps. Let Cliffhanger know that he’s cooking. -THANG: The Chicken Bog: Saute some onions, garlic and sausage and warm up the broth. Combine above with fresh pulled chicken and rice. Cook for 20 minutes. Load up bowls and serve with butter bread. Mary: mint chocolate chip ice cream (plus some other kind, who cares?) plus chocolate chip cookies. NMS: …
YHC and his 2.0’s took several warm pizzas over to Breaking Bread this evening. My kids were able to help serve dinner while engaging in conversation with some of the residents. What a beautiful thing to see as a parent coupled with the invaluable experience for the children. Labrat, thanks for putting this program together, we love it! -Slurpee
Gumbo and his 2.1 and 2.2 (Redbird and Snare) and two 2.0 friends filled up the Gumbo-mobile with Chicken Fiesta and headed to The Daily Planet to “break bread” with the folks there. We dished out some delicious rotisserie chicken, rice, salad and, of course, some fried Yuca. It was a great time. The 2.0s all took orders, served plates of food, and engaged in great conversation. Just like the first time I Q’d Breaking Bread, this is a wonderful opportunity for 2nd F and 3rd F and to meet and share some food and fellowship with some great folks who…
Gents – If you have not been to a Breaking Bread, or if you haven’t been back for a while, consider coming with me and my 2.0s this Sunday. I have the Q for the upcoming Breaking Bread this Sunday, 8/26. It is a great 2nd/3rd F opportunity from 5:00/5:15 until about 7:30 p.m. at The Daily Planet (180 East Belt Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23234). We will be preparing/bringing and serving dinner to patients recovering from illness or injury or surgery in the Medical Respite Program. I’m looking for a couple volunteers to attend with me and help out. Not sure…
