Always 70 and Sunny

Well, YHC was raised in Georgia and Alabama, so perhaps that is qualification enough to closeout SOJ week. A PAX of one posted just before 0615, cursing TYA because posting at 0615 on a Sunday is no joke.  Mosey to Texas Beach, stopping to chat with the Jazz Fest volunteer and to visit the blue box along the way, and back.  Stretch 0657 to 0702, then mosey to Buttermilk, somewhere between Reedy Creek and Belle Isle, and back.  Saab must have run through too early again, because the spiders seemed to have had time to resume their work. A tip…

Eighteen men showed up on a cool rainy morning for an experience that has never happened before an F3 RVA workout (at least for YHC). At approx. 5:50 am, a few of us were doing the norm and greeting each other when all of a sudden a LOUD crash is heard. Immediately we all stopped and looked to see where on the road the wreck was. There is really no way to say this without a mild giggle, but Pavarotti, when pulling in hit the light pole. YES you heard that right. The light pole all by itself with a…

ANNOUNCEMENTS Sounds like the first happy hour was a big success – thanks to Commish for organizing.  Please let us know if we’re on for round two this week! NAKED MOLESKINS We had a great morning stomping soggy ground.  Group of 9 was solid, and everyone gave 100%.  Thank you again for letting me run 3 min over!  My first Q – next one will finish on the dot, promise. We got extra friendly with the cinderblocks today, thanks Speed Limit.  Turns out, those things get darn heavy in the back half.  Exertion measurement was old school (did anyone…

530 am arrived and the alarms started sounding.  4 Pax emerged from the gloom for a Friday morning run. The Thang: Leave the condo at Virginia International Raceway and sneak into the track (around the maintenance building, through the fence and then to the track itself).  Take the raceway south course up the “S” curves (whatever the hell that is), around the oak tree (which no longer exists because if fell a few years), an onto the windy and hilly south course (with zero feet of non cambered road).  Repeato if desired. NMM: Awesome to run on the race track.…

Note: YHC could not remember The Greatest Workout in the World, this is just a tribute. Slaughter Start – 10 Burpees Parking Lot Tracers COP – SSH (20), IW (15), DQ (10), Merkins (10) Mosey to the soccer field for Fantastic Four Corners (10 merkins, 20 jump squats, 30 copperheads, 40 LBCs). The Ghost of George Washington (more on that later) sets the pace running to the road and back. Cool down a bit with some…

Thirteen men rolled out of the sack to enjoy a Friday morning run. The thang: Repeat Lockjaw’s ‘Setaukit’ route from last Friday but in reverse. Moleskin: Aye! YHC thought this would be much easier than it was. 15 PAX handled this route flawlessly last week, so just reverse it and those who didn’t know the path could partner up, even though there were many turns involved. Only YHC and Marv made it through the designed course, but one way or another everyone got their miles in. Props to Lockjaw commandeering the PAX through the normal route on a weekly basis.…

The SOJ gang deputized EF as an honorary member and dispatched him to The Creek to lay down the beat and plant the Flag.  14 Oldies and 1 Newbie escaped the sack.  Here’s how it went down. 7 PAX members posted at Circus Maximus on a cool early morning.  We were greeted by a new FNG as he came running through the tall pines.  He appeared to be like some super power or some folk hero like John Henry.  Yes, the looks of a “steel-driving man”.  His name was BO. He had no kettlebell in his hand but was willing to run home and grab his 53-lb. KB. Mudface was quick to put him in his place by offering him his 10-lb. starter bell.  Offshore claims he met Bo about 6 months ago and told him all…

5 determined men eschewed the fartsack for a SOJ takeover Q at Green Acres.  The weather was a cool 62 degrees, perfect for a morning of putting in some work to get better. THANG Mosey to the bus loop for a warm up.  10 burpees OYO, SSH, DQ, Hillbillies, Alternating shoulder taps, LBC. Mosey to the fields (the size of this field puts others to shame) for a Round and Round.  Here’s how it goes.  Using the light poles as markers, start at the corner do 5 burpees, run down the sideline to the first light pole 5 more, repeat…

16 regulars and 1 FNG posted for a beautiful morning in the near West End.  The fields of Mary Munford were closed but the PAX was not deterred.  The beatdown went something like this: Slaughter Start – 10 Burpees OYO Mosey around full, long blocks Circle up for COP: SSH, DQs, Russian Soldiers, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Crab Cakes, Bob & Weaves Mosey to fields only to discover they are closed.  Audible to Tennis Courts.  Partner up for Darrell Greens – 1st partner starts in merkin position, 2nd partner sprints to end.  Upon starting, partner on the ground performs a merkin and sprints…
