9 PAX braved the not-so-cold for YHC’s introduction of a (hopefully) ingenious exercise.
- SSH – 30
- Michael Phelps – 15
- Imperial Walkers – 15
- Through the Tunnel – 15
Mosey around the lake (opposite the usual direction, including Bear Crawl Bridge) to get the blood pumping, then back to the clubhouse.
YHC introduced a workout of my own creation, called Dice of Death. Similar to Deck of Death, but with a set of polyhedral dice (think Dungeons and Dragons). Each die is assigned to a workout: one PAX draws three random dice from a bag and rolls, all PAX perform designated workout and number of reps. All PAX mosey to dock and back between rolls. Rinse and repeat until all PAX have rolled, then until time allows. Any 0s rolled = the max for that die, either 10 or 100.
The exercises and possible max reps were as follows:
- LBC – 100
- Squat – 100
- Overhead Claps – 100
- Boxcutter – 20
- CDD – 20
- Lunge (4ct) – 20
- Outlaw – 12
- Step-Up – 12
- Hand Release Merkin – 10
- Burpee – 6
- Dip – 8
- Jump-Up – 4
The PAX made it through the full set of twelve dice 3 times for a truly random workout.
To finish out the time, Mission Impossibles (3x). Mosey back to flags.
- Doing 100 consecutive Overhead Claps is not fun. Even less so doing 80, then later 100 consecutive Squats.
- When YHC expressed the difficulty of choosing an upper body exercise that the PAX could possibly do 100 consecutive reps of, Dreamliner humbly submitted Pull-Ups. The suggestion was deferred.
- The specific exercises assigned to specific dice may need to be tweaked for future appearances of the Dice of Death.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.–Matthew 5:43–45
- YHC reminded the PAX that Jesus calls all those who follow him to not respond in kind when someone wrongs us, but to instead do good where they do evil. And he not only calls us to do so, but he himself did so for us and as an example.
